Restoring a Community Icon: Shoreline Foundation Begins Naples Pier Rebuild
The long-awaited reconstruction of the Naples Pier, one of Southwest Florida’s most beloved landmarks, has officially begun. More than three years after Hurricane Ian devastated the historic structure, crews are now on site to restore this cherished community gathering place and symbol of resilience.
A Landmark Worth Rebuilding
Since its original construction in 1888, the Naples Pier has stood as a vibrant centerpiece for beachgoers, anglers, families, and visitors alike. Over its long history, the pier has been rebuilt several times due to storm damage, a testament to the enduring spirit of the community and the importance of this place to locals and tourists alike.
When Hurricane Ian struck in September 2022, more than 30 of the pier’s pilings were destroyed, and a significant section of the structure was lost to the Gulf of Mexico. The damage left much of the pier unusable, and the community had to wait through planning, design, permitting, and funding processes before reconstruction could begin.
Breaking Ground and Moving Forward
In January 2026, a groundbreaking ceremony marked the official start of reconstruction on the Naples Pier. The event brought together city officials, federal representatives, residents, and project partners to celebrate the transition from planning to active construction.
With Shoreline Foundation leading the rebuilding effort, work is now underway to restore this historic structure that has long served as a gathering place for the Naples community and visitors from around the world.
Building for the Future
The redesigned pier prioritizes strength and resilience, using updated engineering standards intended to better withstand future storms and changing coastal conditions. The project is expected to take approximately 18 months to complete.
Once finished, the Naples Pier will stand higher and stronger than before, while maintaining the character and significance that have made it an iconic part of the shoreline for generations. For many in the community, this effort represents more than reconstruction. It reflects recovery, continuity, and a shared commitment to preserving coastal heritage.
